The Horseman is unending,
his presence shan’t lessen.
If you break the curse,
you become the legend.

Washington Irving and Rip Van Winkle had no choice but to cover up the deadly truth behind
Ichabod Crane’s disappearance. Centuries later, a Crane returns to Sleepy Hollow awakening macabre secrets once believed to be buried deep.
What if the monster that spawned the legend lived within you?
Now, Ireland Crane, reeling from a break-up and seeking a fresh start, must rely on the newly awakened Rip Van Winkle to discover the key to channeling the darkness swirling within her. Bodies are piling high and Ireland is the only one that can save Sleepy Hollow by embracing her own damning curse.
But is anyone truly safe when the Horseman rides?

Meet the Editor-- Melissa Ringsted

I came to know Melissa while working with an author friend, Christy Sloat.
Melissa was the editor who worked on Christy's first book,
and every book since.
I've "known" her for about two years,
but only recently am I getting to know her better.
What a epic personality,
great friend she is,
and to speak truth...
Quality Editor, with Best Selling Books!

Melissa is an Editor.
She edits independently,
but also is lead editor Anchor Group Publishing
Lets learn a bit more about her!

Where did you get your passion for editing?
I have always been an avid reader.
As I got older, I first wanted to go into Photo Journalism.
However, I soon learned I can’t write very well.
Knowing I wanted to be working with the written word, I pursued editing.

How long have you been editing?
I have owned my own company, There for You Editing, since 2011.
However, before then I had edited articles and independent books.

What do you see in your future of editing?
I would love to have TfY continue to grow!

Will you always edit or will you venture to write?
I will always edit! This is for a few reasons ...
First, while I can write shorts or articles,
I could never write a full manuscript that would keep the reader hooks.
Secondly, I feel like my clients trust me because I’m not a writer.
They never have to worry about me taking their ‘ideas’
and turning it into my own work.

Do you have a favorite book you've edited?
This is the hardest question I’ve ever been asked.
I have far too many favorites to list,
mainly because they are from different genres.
Plus, I’d be afraid to hurt someone’s feelings.

What lead you to Anchor Group?
I had worked with Stacey Rourke through other channels.
We had become friendly and talked frequently.
We both had similar ideas of what
we would like to see in a company, and … voila!

Tell us a little about you ...

  Do you have a family?
I have two children, a sister, my parents, nieces, and a soul mate!
I also have many ‘extended family’ aka friends
I couldn’t make it through the day without.

Do you work besides being an editor?
On occasion, I will fill in at my father’s shop.

What kind of hobbies do you enjoy?
I’m a really crafty person. I love making or redoing items.

Do you have pets?
I had two dogs and a kitten. Sadly, I’ve had to give them new homes.
My dogs now live with my parents, so we visit frequently,
and the kitten went to a home. My daughter is very allergic.

What is the most embarrassing thing you have done/participated in?
Every once in a while, I will sing karaoke for stress relief.
The reason this is so embarrassing, is I sing like a cat in heat being skinned alive.
 It is not pretty.

What is something humbling you have done and learned from?
I have had to spend a lot of time in the hospitals
in the past year—for my daughter, father,
and a friend—I have learned that you really need to
enjoy the small things in life and live for today.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Going to almost every book convention I can possibly attend!
I have never felt so proud to be a book nerd as I did at my first convention.

Lets have some silly fun...

You just won a million dollars, what do you do first?
Buy a house so that we can live in a nicer area, and then take my daughter to Disney!

You won a trip around the world, but you pick the destinations,
where are you visiting and why?
I’ve always wanted to visit Paris, France for the history, or Ireland for the beauty.

Its Halloween ... people can find you dressed as?
An owl, of course! Whoooo saw that coming?

Morning person or night person?
  Night.

 Favorite cold breakfast food?
Yogurt.

Describe yourself using these letters MELISSA:
Meticulous
Enthusiastic
Likable
 Intense
Sunshine
Sappy
Affectionate

Favorite drink?
Yogi Blueberry Green Tea with fresh ginger.

Do you like to cook?
I love to cook. Homemade spaghetti sauce is
what I do best according to my daughter.
I really enjoy making desserts. For me, cooking is stress relief.

What is something unique about you?
My personality.

A genie granted you 3 wishes ... what are they?
To have my daughter be healthy (always),
all debt paid off,
and a house in a nice area.

What is your favorite quote in life?
 It’s a toss-up between:
The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears
 OR
A room without books is like a body without a soul.

If you could tell your childhood self some advice for the future-what would that be?
Life is hard, an uphill battle, but don’t give up!

If you had to give advice to children out there wanting to become an author,
aspiring to get their books published... what would that be?
Read, read, and read. Learn different styles,
and always hone your craft before releasing it.

Editing Random Questions...
What's your biggest edit mistake you find?
Misuse of words (i.e. there vs their).

What is the biggest pet peeve you get irked at with editing?
 Short, stilted sentences.

What makes you a stand-out editor?
Not only do I edit the book,
and send it back ‘teaching’ the client why something is changed,
but I also continue to promo my authors.

How do you think people perceive editors,
and how do you break and or fit that mold?
Unfortunately, I frequently hear about how a client was
previously ‘ripped off’ by an editor,
whether they took the money and ran
or the editing was not up to par.
This always makes me sad,
and anyone who knows me knows I’m a bleeding heart.
I will work my hardest to make the new
client feel comfortable in my and my work.

What are your biggest personal challenges with editing?
At first, all of my editing was done on the computer.
This (a) tied me to one place, and (b) gave me horrible migraines.
Now, I print off each edit and carry it with me everywhere I go!
Its been fun getting to know Melissa a bit!
